feline fans and mermaid horror enthusiasts rejoice- two films this week are here to entice you.
first up- the surprise documentary hit Kedi is playing all week (and possibly beyond?) over at the nick. its a feature that follows the lives of seven stray cats in istanbul. im personally a cat dad of two, and im really stoked to get a chance to see how the cats in turkey are living these days. all accounts are this is a charming, slightly transcendent meditation on what makes cats such lovely beings. living life with a certain degree of gentleness is highly recommended in these daunting times and it appears kedi is all for celebrating the animal side that lashes out with simply being. talking about the defiance of just existing at all and sharing the world with all creatures.
meanwhile over at space gallery, things are going zestfully batshit-crazy. a polish horror-musical with cannibalistic mermaids is pretty much exactly where i want to be as spring is being sprung. we are super lucky to have such adventurous programming making its way to maine thanks to film programmer jon courtney at space. full disclosure- im going to be bartending this screening and it is my birthday.
final chance to see I Am Not Your Negro at the pma- this weekend two showings at 2pm on saturday and sunday. this is the third encore weekend screening of the film that has sold out in advance the last two weekends it showed at the pma. congrats on an awesome run and its awesome to see such interest in maine for such an important film.
so awesome that railroad square is presenting a film series of classics on 35mm at the waterville opera house. this monday they are showing the out-there spaghetti western Duck You Sucker. if you've never seen a Leone film shown on film on a big screen, you are in for a treat. the colors and the detail are something to behold. and man- that morricone score...
check out the railroad square website for more details on this and future 35 mm screenings at the waterville opera house.
