Ok douchebananas, welcome to Friday and welcome to the all new sexy af makeover that Hot Trash: Portland! got itself in the past couple days. I know you totes love it, don’t even fucking front with me. It’s clean. It’s modern. It has a picture of me in the Downtown Lounge bathroom. It features the writings of a suave new gent named Greg. What’s not to like?
So, to that end, a few things before we dig into this very abbreviated weekend guide (this girl is TIRED, so very, very tired, things have happened this week and I’ve worked some hours and had some stress and some not so great moments, whatever).
Firstly, Hot Trash: Cinema! has launched! Now, all you dickheads be nice to Greg, or, you know, don’t, but just remember that he’s with us and working with us to help local filmmakers and interesting cinema experiences connect with interested parties here in town, and he’s doing it out of the goodness of his heart and head, so you can fuck off if you don’t like it, and yeah, you heard me. Because I like it, so it stays. You’ll like it too, though, relax. Go read his posts.
Ok, secondly, there’s an archive now, so you can go back in time if you want. It’s in the footer of the site, so just fucking go down there and look at it and you can go to past posts easily.
Also a thing is that now music and film posts are categorized as such. So you can click on “music” beneath the headlines on the blog and just see music posts, or click on “film” and you’ll just see film posts, for those of you that can’t handle having your mashed potatoes touch your cranberry sauce on Thanksgiving, what the fuck. I haven’t finished categorizing the old stuff, but I’ll get there eventually, not that it matters, this isn’t the fucking Library of Congress. I have grand designs to tag shit too eventually, but I also have a life, so maybe I’ll just do that going forward, who knows.
OK lastly, I hope you like the new home and about pages. Actually, you know what, I totally don’t care if you like them or not HAHAHAHAHAHA I’m selfish. Anyway, the home page now shows 4 recent posts from both music and film, cool cool, and the about page now has our contact info because seriously a web site with a separate page for about and contact is dumb and I’ve been dumb for far too long.
Since this is the Internet, I expect to hear nothing but negativity and complaints from you fucking Frito-scented groin stains, but you know, hey that’s cool. Ok. Let's get ready for the weekend, then.
Friday, February 26
I have just one event for you on Friday, I know, I know. I've told you a million times that I am both tired and biased.
So listen, my number one client and most beloved band SeepeopleS is playing a not so secret show under the pseudonym “Sheep Steeples,” with Jeff Beam’s Looping Pedal AKA Jeff Beam with Kate Beever’s looping pedal, and then also Forgot Forgot, who are actually Forget, Forget. SHHHHHHH DON’T TELL ANYONE. This thing is at Geno’s tonight and honestly, it’s going to be a real goddam hoot. Why not come. Everyone in these bands is so fucking great at music. Go watch the video I made to promote the thing.
And then here’s a video I made for a SeepeopleS song that I think you’ll enjoy because it has boobies and science:
Look, come and at least hang out with me, this show is $5, The Greek will be there too and everybody likes him, and also I have to get up early the next morning to go do an energy fair for work so I can promise that I’ll be coherent enough to have an actual conversation with you. Pinky swear.
Also, I feel like SeepeopleS are aging very well? I mean look at these blazing hot pieces of shit:
Totes bangable, every one, though I'll tell you what, some of them I've known so long that I just gave myself a Puke, Jr (TM) writing that. Local photographer Shannon Thibodeau took that photo. I want whatever lens she used for my bathroom mirror.
OK, Pam, cool your jets.
Saturday, February 27
OK, so if you dig rockabilly or even if you don’t, there’s a Sadie Hawkins Day dance at Bayside Bowl with Pete Witham and the Cozmik Zombies, and The Flipsides. It’s free, you can dance and you can also bowl. And I suppose you can whip out a switchblade in a threatening way but then TA DA it’s actually a comb for your pompadour!
If you don’t know how to East Coast Swing or Lindy Hop, rockabilly dances are so easy, look here’s one you can learn by Saturday:
Also compelling on Saturday is Sylvia, Fuming Mouth, Leash and Apollyon at Empire, of all places. Sylvia at Empire! I love it. Go and prepare to get your ass blasted out of the fucking room. Wear earplugs, not joking.
Sunday, February 28
How about Jazz at Blue?
And don’t miss later next week, on Thursday, An Anderson, Yairms, Lisa/Liza and GREEF at dBasement. It’s early which is nice on a school night, 8 - 10:30. Boom.
